The RAF Witchford Exhibition is temporarily closed for refurbishment and will reopen in the future; please check back for updates.

Welcome

We are excited to announce the upcoming move to a new purpose-built building designed to honor the legacy of RAF Witchford. This new building, shaped like the fuselage of a Lancaster bomber, will serve as a memorial to the brave men and women who served here during the Second World War and to those who have worked tirelessly to keep their memory alive.

This continuation of the legacy of Barry Aldridge, who dedicated himself to preserving this important history, will ensure that future generations can learn about and honor the sacrifices made.

The existing RAF Witchford Exhibition is temporarily closed for refurbishment and will remain closed until further notice.

The New Exhibition Building

We are thrilled to share that Grovemere Property are seeking permission to create a new purpose-built building to house the RAF Witchford Exhibition. This new building will not only display our extensive collection of documents, pictures, and items from the airfield but also serve as a lasting memorial to the heroic efforts of those who served during the war.

The Exciting Features of Our New Building

Continuing the Legacy of Barry Aldridge

Barry’s first encounter with Witchford Aerodrome came when it was, for a time, a child’s playground for Barry and his friends. Even then, the eerily empty area made an impression.

As an adult, he was involved in setting up a temporary War Years exhibition in Ely Museum, and this triggered an interest consolidated by his involvement in the excavation of a crashed Lancaster at the nearby village of Coveney.

An engine from the crash became the centrepiece of the burgeoning collection, housed, through the generosity of the owners of what had become the Lancaster Way Business Park, in the foyer of one of their buildings. With the unfailing support of his wife Sue, and many volunteers and enthusiasts, the Collection is now known to supporters all over the world.

The new building will continue Barry’s work, preserving and sharing this vital history.
